Champions League: Manchester City easily advances to the quarter-finals

Defending champions Manchester City easily reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Coach Pep Guardiola's team won the second leg of the round of 16 at home against Danish champions FC Copenhagen 3-1 (3-1). Man City had already won the first leg in Copenhagen three weeks ago 3-1.

The goals for the English champions were scored by ex-Dortmunders Manuel Akanji (5th minute) and Erling Haaland (45th 3) as well as Julian Alvarez (9th).

Man City have become the first team to score three goals or more in nine consecutive home games in a major European competition, according to data provider Opta. Mohamed Elyounoussi only scored for Copenhagen to make it 1-2.

Manchester gained further self-confidence for the summit meeting in the Premier League next Sunday at leaders Liverpool FC with German coach Jürgen Klopp. Only one point separates the teams in the table.
