Bundesliga: BVB sports director Kehl does not give up hope in the title race

Sports director Sebastian Kehl still believes in a chance in the title fight with FC Bayern Munich despite the 2-2 win in the derby at FC Schalke 04.

"Of course," Kehl replied to a corresponding question: "We would all wish that the league would remain exciting until the end. That's why the two points hurt. But nothing is lost." He hopes "not that these two points really hurt us in the end".

The draw in the penultimate after two leads was "incredibly annoying and completely unnecessary," said Kehl. "We can be very satisfied with the first half. We should have played at least a second, maybe a third. That's how we got into it ourselves. Two more points would have done us good to stay close to Bayern and also the gap down to keep the same."

With 50 points, BVB, who had previously won the league eight times in a row, are now two points behind Bayern, and the goal difference is significantly worse. In the game after next there will be a summit meeting in Munich. The 43-year-old said he did not want to "completely" dismiss the accusation that his team acted too casually at Schalke: "Maybe we thought a little bit because of the dominance, it will go by itself."

The goals for Schalke were "relatively easy": "They played a lot with long balls. They didn't have much more resources. But it was enough. They will celebrate for that. But we shouldn't have let it go that far."
