Brazil are eliminated from the 2022 World Cup after losing to 2018 runners-up Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals.

They managed a 4-1 win over South Korea in the round of 16 and it looked like the Selecao would advance to the semi-finals for the first time since 2014 when Neymar scored the opener midway through extra time against Croatia.

But Croatia equalized and then prevailed 4-2 on penalties after mistakes by Rodrygo and Marquinhos. Neymar didn't even get a chance in the penalty shootout.

By 2026, Brazil will now have to wait at least 24 years for a World Cup title, as long as between triumphs in 1970 and 1994.
