Two-man bobsleigh Olympic champion Laura Nolte has ensured a historic victory in German bobsleigh. On Saturday she secured success in the monobob in Lake Placid.

In the 15th World Cup race in the history of this discipline, it was the first German success. Nolte won with a total time of 2:01, 31 minutes ahead of monobob Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries of the USA, who was 0.11 seconds behind. Nolte set a track record of 1:00.47 minutes in the first round. Third was Lisa Buckwitz, who set a start record of 5.80 seconds in the first round. The third German starter, Kim Kalicki, took fifth place.

"It finally worked. I was so close, now it worked," said Nolte. What was surprising was that she was picking up speed, especially in the lower section of the track, and was still able to catch Humphries. The American had won every race in Lake Placid since 2017.
