Eintracht Frankfurt stopped the final sprint heroes of SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. Eight days after the last-minute spectacle at 3: 2 in Dortmund, the newly promoted team from the Hanseatic city suffered their first defeat with a 3: 4 (2: 3) against the Europa League winner.
The Frankfurters were able to celebrate their first success of the season after a game well worth seeing by both teams. League returnee and World Cup hero Mario Götze put the guests in front in the second minute with his first competitive goal for his new club. Werder were only briefly shocked and temporarily turned the game around with goals from Anthony Jung (14') and Leonardo Bittencourt (17').
Randal Kolo Muani (32') and Jesper Lindström (39') made the turn again before the break. After the start of the second half, Djibril Sow (48th) scored Frankfurt's fourth goal with a wonderful shot. Niclas Füllkrug's converted penalty kick in the second minute of added time was no longer enough for Bremen this time.

Werder started with the tailwind of the spectacular victory in Dortmund, but initially the Hessians made the game. Götze shocked the Hanseatic League early on with his hit from about 18 meters. A lively game then developed between both teams. Bremen got better and better: Jung got an unsuccessful attempt at clarification and set it to a draw with a direct acceptance. Shortly thereafter, Bittencourt, who was substituted a few minutes injured, beheaded the Werder lead.
It went back and forth: On the other side, Daichi Kamada, allegedly courted by Benfica Lisbon, marked the supposed equalizer. However, the goal did not count for offside. Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner said before the match that "little things" would decide the game - and he was right. An individual error by Werder captain Marco Friedl used Frankfurt's Kolo Muani to equalize. A little later, the strong Lindström made it 3:2 with a lob. After the restart of the second half, Sow increased to 4:2.
After 64 minutes, the Werder coach brought in Lee Buchanan and Niklas Schmidt - and about ten minutes later Oliver Burke - the three late scorers from the Dortmund game. But Werder, who still got a few chances, found it difficult to get back into the rhythm of the game in the second half. The burgeoning hope of Bremen for another Werder miracle after the penalty was converted by Füllkrug was no longer fulfilled.
