2nd league: Hertha and Fortuna in goal frenzy - HSV wins in the northern duel

After the botched start of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga, Hertha BSC has managed an impressive liberation.

In the 5-0 (2-0) win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, the club from the capital delivered everything it had missed in the previous three defeats: a strong performance, many goals and three points. "You need luck in football, we didn't have that recently. We're in a phase and still have to find each other. I've always said that," Hertha coach Pal Dardai told Sky TV. The recent criticism of his team was "absolutely not okay".

Fortuna Düsseldorf was also in a goal mood on Saturday when they made it 5-0 (2-0) at the still winless promoted team SV Elversberg. Hansa Rostock, on the other hand, was enough in the third game on Saturday to take the lead in the table, at least temporarily, by beating VfL Osnabrück 2-1 (1-1). In the evening, Hamburger SV pushed Mecklenburg back from first place. In the northern duel, the promotion candidate prevailed 1-0 (0-0) at Hannover 96 despite being outnumbered thanks to a goal by Bakery Jatta (68th minute). Guilherme Ramos (53rd) had previously seen red.

Haris Tabakovic (23rd/77th minute), Marten Winkler (31st), coach's son Palko Dardai (46th) and Smail Prevljak (66th) scored the goals for the Berliners, who have recently been criticized for their poor performance. Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger had to watch Hertha's highest home win since the 4-0 win against city rivals Union Berlin in May 2020 after his yellow-red card (56th) from the stands.

Elversberg had just as little chance as Fürth in Berlin in the home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf: if the promoted team paid their dues in the previous games of the season and lost a lead in three games, he was completely inferior to Düsseldorf. Also co-promoted VfL Osnabrück is still without a win and slipped down to a relegation zone after the 1:2 at leaders Rostock.

Promotion favorites FC Schalke 04 suffered another setback the night before and lost 2-0 (0-1) at home to Holstein Kiel. "Three defeats after four games - that's extremely bitter," said striker Simon Terodde, summing up the mood in the club. SC Paderborn lost 1:2 (0:0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
