Terrorism: Several dead in attack near Foreign Ministry in Kabul

At least six people have died in a suicide attack near the Foreign Ministry in the Afghan capital Kabul. Several other people were injured, including three Taliban security forces, said Kabul police spokesman Chalid Sadran.

The attack happened shortly after noon (local time) during rush hour, when government employees ended their working day early due to the fasting month of Ramadan.

According to the Italian aid organization Emergency, which runs a hospital in central Kabul, 12 people were injured, including a child, after the incident. Two people had already been taken to the hospital dead, Emergency said on Twitter.

Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attack. At least five people were killed in an attack at the State Department in mid-January. The local branch of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.

Despite their ideological affinity, the Taliban who rule Afghanistan have fought the Sunni militia IS since they appeared in Afghanistan in early 2015. Even after taking power in August 2021, IS has repeatedly carried out deadly attacks in the country, especially on security forces of the Sunni Taliban and Shiite religious sites.
