Technology: Ministry of Consumer Protection calls for clear rules for AI

The Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection has demanded clear rules for the use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI is omnipresent in people's everyday lives - for example in the credit check, said the responsible State Secretary Christiane Rohleder the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"But artificial intelligence can also increase prejudice and discrimination." For example, consumers could be excluded from economic participation. To prevent this, AI systems would have to be “cleverly trained, constantly evaluated and verifiable” before being used on the market, Rohleder added.

Yesterday, the German Ethics Council issued a statement in favor of strict limitations on the use of AI. "The use of AI must enhance human fulfilment, not diminish it," said Alena Buyx, the chair. The German Ethics Council is an independent body in Germany that deals with ethical issues and challenges in the fields of science, medicine and healthcare.
