Report: Washington considers training Ukrainian soldiers in US

According to a media report, the US Department of Defense is considering training Ukrainian soldiers on the Patriot air defense system at a military base in the US.

This was reported by the Politico website, citing two Pentagon officials. So far, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the end of February, Ukrainian soldiers have only been trained on various weapon systems within Europe, including in Germany. Carrying out the Patriot training in Europe is possible, but there are more logistical difficulties, said one of the employees. A Pentagon spokesman declined to comment, according to Politico.

The US is Ukraine's main ally. They support the country in defending against Russia's attack with military equipment and money, among other things. On the occasion of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Washington on Wednesday, the United States announced another military aid package worth 1.85 billion US dollars (around 1.7 billion euros). Also included is a Patriot battery. The air defense system is likely to complicate Russia's missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
