The Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck has to go to prison. After her final conviction for incitement to one year in prison, the Berlin public prosecutor's office asked the 94-year-old to go to prison in North Rhine-Westphalia immediately, as a spokesman for the authorities said.

The "Neue Westfälische" had previously reported. Haverbeck, who lives in Vlotho (Herford district), had tried to be spared prison by applying for incapacity. According to the prosecutor's office, a prison doctor had confirmed her ability to be held prisoner.

Haverbeck is now to serve her sentence in an open prison in Bielefeld-Senne. "There is no fixed time or deadline for this, and we have not yet received a corresponding admission notification from the JVA," said the spokesman for the public prosecutor's office. Originally, the authorities had invited the notorious Holocaust denier in mid-October to begin prison.

Haverbeck failed last April with her appeal against two convictions for sedition from 2017 and 2020 before the Berlin Regional Court. The widow denied the Holocaust, the judge explained at the time. There is no sign of remorse or a rethinking. A total sentence of one year in prison is appropriate to the crime and to blame.

For years, criminal courts have repeatedly had to deal with the notorious inciter. In 2004 she was convicted for the first time and received a fine. Most recently, sentences were imposed without probation. Haverbeck repeatedly claimed that the Auschwitz concentration camp was not an extermination camp and that mass murder did not take place there. According to historians' estimates, the Nazis murdered at least 1.1 million people in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp alone.
