Pandemic: Survey: Increased satisfaction with the health system

According to a survey, people with statutory health insurance are more satisfied with the health care system in Germany than before the corona pandemic.

58 percent of those surveyed stated that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the health care, according to a survey by the market research institute Ipsos on behalf of the central association of statutory health insurance companies (GKV), which is available to the German Press Agency in Berlin. In 2019 and thus before the pandemic, the value was 50 percent.

In the current survey, one in ten participants stated that they were somewhat or very dissatisfied with the healthcare system. Three years ago, 15 percent had given the same answer. A good third stated in both surveys that they were partially satisfied.

More than two-thirds of the more than 2,000 respondents also believed that the health insurance system had proven its worth during the pandemic. 15 percent of the survey participants disagreed. 16 percent answered that they did not know.

"The solidary health system passed the stress test," said Stefanie Stoff-Ahnis from the board of directors of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds on the occasion of the survey.

The results are similar to a survey published in June by the Allensbach Institute for Public Opinion: A majority of those surveyed at the time (81 percent) rated the health system and health care in Germany positively. According to this, satisfaction with health care has hovered around 80 percent since 2012.
