Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and EU President Ursula von der Leyen negotiated behind closed doors for days. As a precaution, the Protestant members of the Northern Irish DUP party nervously announced their skepticism. And to make matters worse, a certain Boris Johnson tried to stir up feelings against his successor Sunak and the deal he had worked out, whatever the outcome.
