Murder case: safety precautions when questioning the Lübcke murderer

Under strong security precautions, the questioning of the convicted murderer of the Kassel district president Walter Lübcke has begun before the investigative committee of the Hessian state parliament. For security reasons, Stephan Ernst will not be questioned in the state parliament building on Friday, but in the Wiesbaden district court.

Ernst was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court (OLG) for the murder of the CDU politician in January 2021. He shot Lübcke in June 2019 on his terrace for right-wing extremist motives.

Ernst was led into the hall accompanied by several armed police forces. He was wearing a red shirt and a medical mask. His lawyer was also present. The police showed a clear presence in front of and in the district court. The hall in the district court for the questioning of Ernst was full of reporters and observers.

The state parliament investigation committee is to work up the role of the Hessian security authorities in the Lübcke murder case.
