According to a White House official, Vice President Kamala Harris will give the 2022 commencement speech at Tennessee State University (a historically Black university) on May 7.

Glenda Glover, President of TSU, expressed excitement about Harris's participation in the commencement ceremony. Harris is the first HBCU graduate who has served as vice president or president.

Glover stated that "Commencement is a significant milestone in our students’ lives, but having the Vice President of United States as your speaker makes this moment even greater for our students and families," in a press release obtained first by CBS News.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin will also be part of the commencement ceremonies.

Harris visited many HBCUs during her term in office, including Howard University. Harris also announced grants and a guide to assist historically Black colleges and universities that were targeted by bomb threat. The Biden administration has committed $5.8 billion to HBCUs since it took office.

The White House announced Tuesday that President Biden would deliver his 2022 commencement speech at the University of Delaware on May 28. Harris gave the U.S. 2021 Commencement Address in her first year of office. Naval Academy.
