Extremism: Death toll after IS attack in Syria rises to 68

After an attack by the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) in Syria, the death toll has risen to at least 68, according to activists. Among them were 61 civilians and seven soldiers, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Saturday. At least 53 fatalities had previously been mentioned.

The terrorists, armed with submachine guns, first attacked a government checkpoint in the city of Al-Suchna in the east of the country on Friday evening. They then "randomly" shot at truffle collectors in a nearby field, the observatory reported. All attackers then managed to escape.

According to this information, IS extremists kidnapped around 75 people in the region and killed 16 a few days ago. Dozens are still listed as missing. Years ago, IS controlled large areas of Syria and neighboring Iraq. The militia in the region is now considered militarily defeated. However, there are still groups in both countries that carry out attacks.
