Elections: Lula and Bolsonaro: Last TV duel before runoff

Before the runoff election for the presidency in Brazil, incumbent Jair Bolsonaro and former head of state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made serious accusations against each other in a last TV duel and accused each other of lying.

Left challenger Lula claimed on Friday evening (local time) that 33 million people were suffering from hunger under the right-wing president in Brazil. Bolsonaro replied: "Stop lying." Lula replied that his opponent knew exactly who was lying.

Many questions remained unanswered. Bolsonaro dodged when Lula asked him how he planned to bring the country out of international isolation. Elsewhere, he told Lula, who wanted to turn away at the end of an answer, "Stay here, man!" Lula snapped back, "I don't want to be around you." The ex-president won the first round on October 2, but less clearly than expected. The runoff is open. Results are expected on Monday night.
