Survey : the French have mostly trust in their forces of order - The Point

While the executive tries to calm the tensions related to police violence, against a backdrop of business George Floyd, in the United States, and Adama Traoré, in France, a survey Elabe conducted for BFM TV has just reset the clock to the hour. It shows that the French trust, in a vast majority of their forces of order.

A proportion that rises to 69 % for the police, but presents a decrease of 7 points from a previous study dating back to April 2019. At the same time, 81% of the respondents say that they trust in the force, and 85 % trust the army. In contrast, only 51% of the respondents say they have confidence in the justice system, compared to 49 % of the opposite opinion.

These works also show differences from one age group to another : in people over 65 years of age, trusted to the army, the gendarmerie and the police to be 90 %, 88 % and 76 % ; for 18-24 year olds, on the other hand, the proportion drops to 86 %, 76 % and 65 %. Of the electorate to another, there are, again, differences : the proportion of voters of François Fillon saying they trust the police is 86 %, against 80% for the voters of Emmanuel Macron. For those who have chosen Benoît Hamon and Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round of the last presidential election, the proportion drops respectively to 51 % and 55 %.

it is also worth mentioning the case of police violence : 33% of the people interviewed by Elabe, these facts are first of all related to the " aggressive behaviour of some individuals ". 14 % feel that "the increase of social tensions and [of] disputes in the country" is the first question. A same proportion of respondents believes that the "lack of numbers" and "the fatigue that accumulates to the police" are the first factor in police violence. Even more respondents (16 %) perceive the "excessive use of force by some police officers" as the primary cause of police violence.
