Without heat and crowds: relaxed city trips in autumn

The great heat disappears and the tourist crowds of the high season with it. For fans of city trips, autumn is a great time to relax and enjoy art and culture. In the southern metropolises of Europe, sun-seekers can also look forward to a warm late summer.

In Athens, for example, the thermometer climbs to around 20 degrees even in October. In November, visitors can still look forward to temperatures of up to 18 degrees. Pleasant temperatures for walking on the Acropolis, visiting the Olympieion or taking a detour to the port of Piraeus. Life in the city takes place outdoors, even in autumn. If you have more time, you can discover the area around Athens while hiking or cycling.

In Italy, autumn can also be enjoyed with pleasant temperatures. For example in a café in Rome. Here, too, the masses of tourists say goodbye from September. From the Vatican to the Trevi Fountain, St. Peter's Basilica, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Roman Forum to the Colosseum - in the off-season it gets quieter in these famous places - and therefore the waiting times are shorter.

The Elevador de Santa Justa, the Castelo de São Jorge or the old town district of Alfama and the Torre de Belém - visitors can easily explore the Portuguese capital Lisbon on foot, even in October without breaking a sweat in moderate temperatures. In addition to the sights, there are festivals and good food to discover. The city is also famous for its nightlife.

In Barcelona you can enjoy the architecture and food culture, especially in October. Sights such as the Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Milà as well as various museums, shows, festivals, shopping and bars await visitors. Sports enthusiasts can also explore the city by bike in autumn or take a long walk on the city beach. Swimming is theoretically still possible.
