"Welcome to Derry": Prequel series to the horror film "It" is coming

It was already made public in March of last year that the Argentinian filmmaker Andy Muschietti (49) was developing a serial sequel to his two successful horror films "It" (2019) and "It Chapter 2" (2019). As the industry website "Deadline" reports, the project entitled "Welcome to Derry" has now been officially ordered by the streaming service HBO Max as a series. The story to be told is a prelude to the horror films mentioned.

In the series project that has now been ordered, Muschietti is acting as series creator alongside his sister Barbara Muschietti (51) and Jason Fuchs (36). The 49-year-old will also direct some episodes of the prequel series, including the pilot. Co-showrunners are Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane (49).

According to Barbara and Andy Muschietti, the upcoming series will draw on elements and stories from King's extensive novel that had to be left out of the two feature films. "We can't wait to share the depths of Steve's novel, with all its heart, humor, humanity and horror," the series creators said. Horror Pope King said he was "excited that the story of Derry, Maine's most haunted city, is continuing."

A start date or cast for "Welcome to Derry" has not yet been set.
