It's getting dirtier. Prince Harry's allegations against his family weigh heavily. Fraud, gossip, press games - and now there's physical violence as well.
The British newspaper "The Guardian" describes a scene from 2019 that apparently left the Duke of Sussex traumatized. His brother, Prince William, wanted to talk to him about "the whole rolling catastrophe", by which he is said to have meant Harry's relationship with Duchess Meghan. William then, as Harry describes it, used words similar to those used by the British press. The Prince of Wales is said to have said Meghan was "difficult", "rude" and "rough", whereupon Harry accused him of "parroting the press narrative".
But according to Prince Harry, the dispute over Meghan became something much bigger. It is said to have been about the succession to the throne, which differentiated the brothers from their birth. William is the heir, while Harry - hence the title of his memoir - is only the substitute. According to Harry, King Charles III. said to Princess Diana at the birth of Harry: "Wonderful! Now you have given me an heir and a surrogate child - my work is done."
According to the Guardian, it sounds like Harry accused his brother back in 2019 of choosing the institution over the brothers' relationship. In his and Meghan's Netflix documentary, the 38-year-old has already hinted at something similar.
During their argument, William told him he just wanted to help. "Are you serious? Help me? Sorry - so that's what you call it? Help me?" Harry replied, which only enraged William. Harry describes how his brother freaked out, after which he gave him a glass of water. "Willy, I can't talk to you when you're like that," he is said to have said and then describes what happened next: "He turned off the water, continued to insult me and then attacked me. It worked everything so fast. So fast. He grabbed my collar and yanked at my necklace and pushed me to the ground. I landed on the dog bowl, which broke under my back and the pieces cut into me. I lay there in a daze for a moment , then I got up and told him to go away."
William wanted von to stand up to him, writes Harry in his book. That's how they would have arranged it as boys, he explains. When Harry didn't want that, however, William stepped away and apologized. "He yelled back, 'You don't have to tell Meg about this,'" Harry writes. "'You mean that you attacked me?' Harry replied. "I didn't attack you, Harold," William then said, according to Harry. It is not known whether William called Harry Harold more often, or only did so in the situation .
Prince Harry also remembers a meeting after Prince Philip's funeral in 2021. The brothers also argued back then. Her father, King Charles III, looked at her and said, "Please boys. Don't make my final years a misery."
