The question of whether this country needs another interview with Dieter Bohlen is justified. Legitimate answer: It's absolutely necessary. He hasn't given one to a magazine for a long time, not for years. And when Bohlen talks, the Germans listen, at least that's how it used to be. Even if many would not admit it, it was never appropriate to find planks good.
Maybe everything has changed, maybe the man is a discontinued model today, that's possible. Bohlen was at the top and was fired by his broadcaster RTL, which now also owns the star, which is made transparent. But now he's been brought back, and you want to know whether it's supposed to be a desperate comeback or his sweet revenge - and what he actually always has with Russia.
Bohlen welcomes you in the hallway of his villa. Grins his concrete grin. One is punctual, at least that. The host hates being late. He had to be persuaded to talk, he really didn't want to. Coffee? Water? Tea? Carina, do it! And Carina, his clever, nice wife, hangs up the jackets. The soap operas of yesteryear, the exes that could be listed in chronological order, all over. Bohlen likes to sit on his ride-on lawn mower these days, he once said, and in a few days he's going on vacation to the Maldives.
One would like to see him without make-up, all the wrinkles and distortions on his face that life as a self-proclaimed pop titan must have brought with it. No chance. The stylist he called has been busy for hours. Bohlen goes into the studio, on the white leather sofa, surrounded by the gold records. Sits down in front of him, arms crossed, basic skepticism in his jacket: what do they want from him, the journalists?

On RTL. Where you were first discarded and then reinstated. RTL hurt me a lot. But when they asked if I wanted to come back, I had to think of the many years before the expulsion. How much fun I had! 15 number 1 hits on "DSDS" alone. The backwards somersault wasn't easy for the bosses either, who had to jump over their shadows.
They are back in the new season because the ratings were smeared without planks. Were you overjoyed that it didn't work? I was. But at the same time I am extremely loyal and have been with this station for 20 years. It just goes to show me that sometimes the people in front of the TV see more clearly than the people behind the desk. Everyone I met in Germany, everyone without exception, said to me: Why did RTL do that?
