"Tolkien turns in his grave": Elon Musk criticizes "Lord of the Rings" series

Tesla boss Elon Musk (51) was critical of the "Lord of the Rings" series that appeared just a few days ago on Twitter. The currently richest person in the world writes verbatim on Amazon's major project "The Rings of Power": "Tolkien turns over in his grave". Musk is referring to the British author J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973), on whose works the "Lord of the Rings" series by the two series creators and authors J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay is based.

In a second tweet sent immediately afterwards, Musk commented on male and female characters in Amazon's series. The 51-year-old writes: "Almost every male character so far is a coward, an ass or both. Only Galadriel is brave, smart and nice".

Musk, who often attracts attention with controversial tweets and opinions on a wide variety of topics, is in line with numerous network trolls and critical voices in the case of the "Lord of the Rings" series. So far, they have complained, among other things, that non-white actors can also be seen in the fantasy series. In addition to these racist hostilities, there is also frequent criticism online that those responsible for the series have placed a female character at the center of the plot with the elf Galadriel - also mentioned by Musk. This is a key difference from Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" films. Another caveat about Amazon's major project that has often been voiced is that the series is based on the works of template author J.R.R. Tolkien does not do justice. Musk also picks this up in his first tweet.

The industry magazine "Hollywood Reporter" also notes on Musk's two "Lord of the Rings" tweets that there would be "a long-lasting hostility and rivalry" between the SpaceX founder and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (58). This has intensified again due to the direct competition between Musk's space company SpaceX and the company Blue Origin founded by Bezos. Tesla boss Musk has regularly expressed negative opinions about Bezos or one of his companies in the past. The series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is the prestige project of Amazon's streaming service Prime Video.
