TikTok: Nursing home residents reenact Rihanna's Super Bowl show - and the pop star loves it

Rihanna wowed many fans with her Super Bowl halftime show in February. The singer put on a spectacular show on a floating stage while also revealing that she's pregnant again. Obviously, her performance made an impression not only on young fans, but also on some seniors.

Inspired by the choreography of the white-suited dancers supporting Rihanna at the Super Bowl, residents at a Kentucky retirement home felt inspired. The singer was an elderly lady in a red blazer and with a microphone. They published the video – accompanied by a Rihanna song – on TikTok, where it was viewed more than 30 million times.

But not only the TikTok users had fun with the parody, Rihanna herself also became aware of the video – and was very enthusiastic about it. As thanks and appreciation, she sent the retirement home a hundred white roses and a short note praising the ladies' performance.

"We were just shocked," a spokeswoman for the dormitory told Buzzfeed News. "The whole time we were waiting for a response from Rihanna - we didn't really think it would ever happen because we know she's busy and we didn't really know if she saw it or not." The residents were very happy about the message from the pop star. And not only that: Jay-Z, head of the record label Roc Nation, where Rihanna is under contract, also sent a hundred roses.

The dormitory has only recently had a TikTok account, on which the older ladies can take part in changing challenges – a rather unusual pastime for a retirement home, where bingo or board games are usually more popular. Not everyone knew who Rihanna was, and certainly not what TikTok was, but ultimately many residents enjoyed it, the spokeswoman said.

Of course, it was not foreseeable that they would go viral – but the elderly enjoy all the hustle and bustle, said the head of the home “Buzzfeed News”: “They enjoy all the attention and fame.”
