The Weeknd: Singer breaks off his concert in tears

The Weeknd (32) prematurely ended a concert in tears on Saturday night. The singer performed in front of more than 70,000 fans at the sold-out SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. As reported by several US media, the 32-year-old abruptly left the stage during his third song. A little later he came back and announced that he would not be able to finish the concert.

"I'll make sure you get your money back," he assured fans. "I'll be putting on a show for you guys very soon." The Weeknd continued: "I apologize. I love you so much. You know how much this is killing me, I'm sorry. (...) Thank you so much." According to media reports, his voice is said to have sounded hoarse, and The Weeknd is said to have fought back tears.

A little later he spoke up on Twitter and explained the reason for the canceled concert. Already during the first song his voice "failed" and he was "devastated". "I felt her gone and my heart stopped," wrote The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. "My deepest apologies to my fans here. I promise I'll make it up to you with a new date."

It is not yet known whether his voice problems will affect other planned concerts. The day before, The Weeknd had also performed at SoFi Stadium. According to "Entertainment Tonight", several of his celebrity friends were in the audience, including models Kendall Jenner (26), Camila Monroe (25) and Lily-Rose Depp (23) and "Euphoria" creator Sam Levinson (37). The Weeknd is working with Depp and Levinson on the HBO series The Idol. The singer and the model star in the drama.
