"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power": Filming has started on the second season

The premiere edition of the "Lord of the Rings" series is now close to the finish line on Amazon Prime Video. The penultimate episode of season one will be released on October 7th, before the grand finale of the first season of "The Rings of Power" flickers across the screens a week later. As the "Hollywood Reporter" reports, filming has meanwhile begun in England for the long-confirmed second season of the Middle-earth series. Shooting started on October 3rd yesterday, a release date has not yet been set.

Some Tolkien fans will regret that season two of the fantasy series is now being produced at Bray Studios west of London rather than in New Zealand. Because in addition to season one of the Amazon series, the two legendary film trilogies "The Lord of the Rings" (2001-2003) and "The Hobbit" (2012-2014) by filmmaker Peter Jackson (60) were already created in the Pacific island state. In the viewer's imagination, New Zealand has therefore become the fictional continent of Middle-earth.

As the "Hollywood Reporter" writes, however, it is "more cost-saving" for Amazon to have season two of the large-scale production shot in England. About half of the ensemble cast of the series also live in the United Kingdom, as the trade journal stated when the move became known more than a year ago.

Five seasons are planned for the "Lord of the Rings" series. The second edition will again consist of eight episodes. Season one of The Rings of Power is said to have grossed an estimated $465 million. The total budget will probably exceed the billion dollar mark by the end of the series.
