"The Last of Us": Second season is coming

The series "The Last of Us" got off to a dream start in the US on HBO Max and in Germany via Wow, Sky's independent streaming service. It ranks as HBO's second-biggest series launch after House of the Dragon, and at Wow, it garnered the second-best non-linear launch ever on the platform. On the "Rotten Tomatoes" rating platform, the series currently (as of January 28) has a rating of 97 percent. Unsurprisingly, the video game adaptation is now getting a second season.

"I'm impressed, honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people tuned in and felt connected to our retelling of Joel and Ellie's journey," Sky executive producer Neil Druckmann said in a press release. "Now we have the great pleasure of repeating that with Season 2! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you!" Executive Producer Craig Mazin (51) added: "I'm so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our partnership, and I'm even more grateful to the millions of people who have been with us on this journey." The audience gave them the chance to continue, "and as a fan of the characters and world that Neil and Naughty Dog created, I can't wait to dive back into it."

"The Last of Us" follows the story of the characters Joel and Ellie, portrayed by the two "Game of Throne" stars Pedro Pascal (47) and Bella Ramsey (19). Together, the unequal duo must fight their way through a world overrun by zombie-like beings, in which a fungal infestation has caused the downfall of mankind. The series is based on the Playstation game of the same name, which was released in 2013 and received a second part in 2020.
