Taylor Swift: New album "Midnights" unusually dark

Again new music from Taylor Swift (23)! The tenth studio album "Midnights" with 13 new songs by the singer, who is one of the most successful musicians in the world, was released on Friday night.

The songs are said to have been created in 13 sleepless nights, as the singer announced via Instagram seven weeks ago.

Swift describes the concept album as "a journey through horrid dreams and sweet dreams." For Spotify, the pop star detailed the album's five main themes: self-loathing, revenge fantasies, asking "what could have been", falling in love and breaking up.

Musically, the singer is breaking new ground with her producer Jack Antonoff (38): The ethereal, sluggish "Maroon" is reminiscent of the bitter icing pop by Lorde (25), who also works with Antonoff. The somber beat and distorted autotune shadows in the chorus of "Vigilante Shit" are an obvious flirtation with Billie Eilish (20).

"Snow on the Beach" begins like a Disney song by Lana del Rey (37) - who actually co-wrote and sang the dreamy song about unrequited love. Swift's partner, Joe Alwyn (31), also credits the album under the pseudonym William Bowery.

Swift has been particularly busy and successful in the last three years with five albums. The critics are also enthusiastic about the American's latest work. Tenor: "Midnights" is a turning point in her career ("Daily Telegraph") and "now a classic" ("Rolling Stone").
