"Suddenly Princess": Third feature film in development

Oscar winner Anne Hathaway (40) played her first film role in 2001 in the teen comedy "The Princess Diaries". As the industry magazine "The Hollywood Reporter" now reports, Disney is working on a third part of the successful film series. The still untitled "Suddenly Princess" sequel has so far been able to find a screenwriter in Aadrita Mukerji. However, the return of leading actress Hathaway or British acting icon Julie Andrews (87) has not yet been officially confirmed. Andrews has played the grandmother of Hathaway's character Mia in both previous installments of the film series.

The new Princess Diaries, which is now in development, is said to be a continuation of the story of teenager Mia, and not a reboot of the series with new actors. "The Hollywood Reporter" learned this from industry circles. The most recent film, Princess Prudence 2 (2004), ended with Mia being crowned Queen of the fictional European country of Genovia.

Nothing seems to stand in the way of leading actress Hathaway returning. As early as October of this year, the 40-year-old actress told "ETOnline" that she was willing to appear in "The Princess Suddenly 3" - but in the same breath she also wanted her film grandmother Andrews to be involved. "If there's any way we could get Julie Andrews involved, we could do it," Hathaway said.

Andrews, now 87, hasn't appeared in a movie since Dwayne Johnson's 2010 comedy The Tooth Fairy. In addition to her Netflix series "Julie's Theater School" (2017), Andrews is limited to speaking roles. For example, she can be heard as Lady Whistledown in the original English version of the Netflix hit series "Bridgerton".
