The German Netflix mystery series "1899" made it into the top ten series in 90 countries within its first four days online. It is number one in the “TV” category in countries such as Turkey, Brazil, India, Egypt and Germany, according to the streaming service’s weekly hit lists published on Tuesday evenings. "1899" was in the TV top ten in more countries than the Queen series "The Crown" (86 countries).

In eight episodes, "1899" tells the mysterious story of what happened during a ship's voyage from London to New York.

The new series by "Dark" makers Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar was released on November 17th. According to Netflix, by Sunday (November 20) it had streamed 79.3 million hours worldwide.

In the global weekly top ten (November 14 to 20) in the "TV (English)" category, it was beaten only by the fifth season of "The Crown" released on November 9, which clocked up 84.3 million hours (previous week 107.4 million). However, unlike "1899," season five of "Crown" was available every day of the week.

The fact that the German production "1899" is being run as an English-language series is due to its multilingualism. In the series, emigrants from different countries go to America. This multinational aspect is also translated into language.
