Streaming services: Disney is an underdog in German-speaking countries

As the result of a survey as part of the Statista Global Consumer Survey shows, Amazon Prime Video is the leader in Austria and Germany - albeit only slightly ahead of other providers. At this point, however, it must be said that every Amazon Prime customer can also use Prime Video, so it is not always a conscious decision in favor of the streaming service, but rather an extra.

In Switzerland, however, Amazon's streaming service plays a subordinate role. Only around 28 percent of all survey participants there stated that they had been Prime Video customers in the last 12 months. This means that Amazon's streaming service is even less used by the Swiss than the youngest of the three platforms, Disney.

In the twelve months prior to the survey, 39 percent of respondents in Germany, 33 percent in Austria and 35 percent in Switzerland paid for a Disney subscription. Around two years after Disney launched in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Disney's video streaming service still cannot compete with the top dogs Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. However, the proportion of users has increased in all countries compared to the previous year's survey.
