Stephen Greif is dead. The British actor was 78 years old. "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our wonderful client Stephen Greif," the Guardian said in a statement from his management. "His extensive career has spanned numerous roles on screen and stage, including at the National Theatre, RSC and the West End. We will miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Born in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, Griffin attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After starring in numerous stage productions in the 1960s and early 1970s, he made the leap to screen and TV. He got the role of space commander Travis in "Blake's 7" (1978 to 1981). Later he appeared in films like "Spartan" (2004), "Casanova" (2005) or "Shoot on Sight" (2007).

He also played the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Bernard Weatherill in the fourth season of the 2020 Netflix series The Crown.
