Sports presenter: RTL brings Monica Lierhaus back to television

Soccer fans have spent countless evenings with her: Monica Lierhaus moderated the "Sportschau" from 2004 to 2009, was a constant companion for the national soccer team at the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship and reported on three Olympic Games.

In 2009, her career was suddenly interrupted when Lierhaus was placed in an artificial coma for four months after a brain operation and then had to retrain her ability to speak and move. After that, she was rarely seen on TV.

But now the popular sports journalist is returning to the screen. As RTL announced, the 52-year-old will be shown in various formats for the private broadcaster. On April 13th, Lierhaus will talk about her comeback for the first time in an interview in the run-up to the Europa League game between Bayer Leverkusen and St. Gilloise.

In June she will report from the Special Olympics in Berlin. RTL is the media partner of this world's largest inclusive sports event - for the news and magazine formats, Lierhaus will interview various athletes and take over the sports moderation on "RTL Aktuell".

But RTL is planning even more with the television journalist, who was born in Hamburg in 1970: In June, together with Florian König, she is to report on an international match of the German national soccer team. In addition, she gets her own column in "Point 12": In a weekly series, Monica Lierhaus also accompanies everyday heroes.

Monica Lierhaus is also positive about the cooperation: "I'm really looking forward to working with RTL," said the 52-year-old. "We realize exciting projects with extraordinary people." She is particularly looking forward to “excursions on football and the national team”.

This is how Monica Lierhaus was remembered by millions of television viewers. And so we will experience them again.
