Seal turns 60: Six exciting facts about Heidi Klum's ex

Seal has been on the big stages of the world for more than 30 years and has made many women's hearts beat faster with his soulful voice and hits like "Crazy" or "Kiss from a Rose". The musician doesn't seem to be thinking about quitting, after all, fans can look forward to numerous concerts as part of a world tour in 2023. Although he always had a love of music, in his youth he initially devoted himself to a completely different profession. As he turns 60 on February 19, here are six fun facts about the British star.

Seal's childhood was anything but easy. He was born in Paddington, London, in 1963 to a Nigerian mother and a Brazilian father. However, Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, his real name, spent the early years of his life with a foster family. At the age of five his mother took him back to her. But at home it was difficult for Seal, who knew even then that he wanted to pursue an artistic career later. His father did not accept this, physical violence ensued. At 15, Seal ran away from home...

Nevertheless, the Briton completed school and then began studying architecture. So that he could finish this, he kept his head above water with odd jobs. But a stage performance at the age of eleven seemed to have shaped Seal at the time. The desire for a career as a musician remained.

Something that made Seal's life even more difficult from an early age was lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease that has no cure and is believed to be related to his significant facial scarring. However, Seal rarely speaks publicly about his health.

The illness did not stop his musical career. Seal's big breakthrough came with his song "Killer" in 1990. The single reached number one in the UK charts and also enjoyed great international success. His next song "Crazy" was not long in coming, which stayed in the hit parade for 23 weeks and climbed to the top of the charts in Switzerland. In 1991 his first album "Seal" was released, which was awarded gold and platinum several times. It won Best Album at the Brit Awards in 1992.

More records and songs followed. With "Kiss from a Rose" Seal made another hit - and what a hit: it received three Grammy awards in 1996, for example in the categories "Recording of the Year", "Song of the Year" and "Best Male Pop Artist". In the meantime, Seal has ten albums to his credit, his last album "Standards" being released in 2017.

Seal's love life can be described as mostly turbulent. If you take a look at his exes, it is noticeable that the singer seems to have a soft spot for models. Before marrying Heidi Klum (49), he was already in a relationship with Tyra Banks (49) and Tatjana Patitz (1966-2023) in the 90s. In 2015, his relationship with model Erica Packer (45) became public knowledge. Two years later he also appeared with the singer Delta Goodrem (38).

However, Seal's marriage to Heidi Klum undoubtedly provided the greatest media attention. The two met in the early 2000s and moved in together in London. In 2005 they tied the knot in Mexico. In the same year, son Henry (17) was born, in 2006 Johan (16) and in 2009 daughter Lou (13) were born. Klum's daughter Leni Klum (18), whose biological father is Flavio Briatore (72), adopted Seal in 2009. The family initially lived in Beverly Hills before moving to Brentwood in Los Angeles.

Despite family happiness, the love for Klum did not want to last. In January 2012, Seal and the model announced their separation, and they divorced two years later. Seal is currently dating his former assistant, Laura Strayer. The two made their red carpet debut in October 2021 at a film premiere, which also included their daughter Leni.
