Royals: "Spare": How Prince Harry already triggers a small tremor with the book title

It is probably the most discussed book of the year - and as of today it is clear that it will not be published at all this year. As the publisher Penguin Random House announced on its website today, Prince Harry's memoirs will not be published until January 10, 2023.

This news did not stop the debate about this work, which had been raging for a long time. On the contrary: The title of the book, "Spare", which was announced at the same time, provides material for new speculation. The title alludes to the British idiom "the heir and the spare". The heir is Harry's brother Prince William, heir apparent. Which is why Harry was given the role of surrogate at birth. But since Prince William had children, Harry is no longer even a replacement - in the current line of succession he ranks fifth - behind minors Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

But after everything that leaks out of the palace, King Charles' second son and his wife Meghan also feel neglected in other respects. The positive pictures that went around the world on September 10, shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, do not change that. William and Harry and their wives showed up in front of Windsor Castle and spent around 45 minutes together.

The reunion of the "Fab Four" raised hopes for a reconciliation of the estranged brothers. For a brief moment everything seemed possible. Royals fans even suspected Harry would scrap or rephrase his autobiography.

However, the peace only lasted until their grandmother was buried. After Elizabeth II's memorial service, old conflicts flared up again, rumors of the dispute leaked out and gave the British tabloids new ammunition.

As of today, two things are clear: Prince Harry will not withdraw his memoir. In addition, the title suggests that it will not be a forgiving book. The title is already understood as a declaration of war in Harry's home country: "The power and the pathos of one word", tweeted the BBC's longtime Royals expert, Peter Hunt. And the usually well-informed Daily Mail said the palace was "concerned".

In German, on the other hand, the work should not provoke such violent reactions. What could also be due to the title: In this country it will appear under the name "Reserve".
