Royal Baby in Summer: Princess Eugenie is expecting her second child

Britain's Princess Eugenie is pregnant. "Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce that they are expecting their second child this summer," Buckingham Palace said on Tuesday. "The family is delighted and August is very much looking forward to becoming a big brother." Eugenie gave birth to her first child in 2021 at the age of 30.

On Instagram, Prince Andrew's daughter, now 32, expressed her joy in a very personal way. There she shared a photo of her son August hugging her and pressing his face to her stomach. The two of them are standing in a meadow, laughing in the sunlight. "We are so excited to announce that our family will be expanding this summer," the statement said. The picture was taken according to Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank.

According to the PA news agency, the child will be 13th in line to the British throne and will be the first great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II to be born since her death last September.

Princess Eugenie visited Harry in the USA

For the royal family, the pregnancy is welcome news after a turbulent period. In the past few weeks, the revelations of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have made the royal headlines. The palace did not take a public position on this, but just let the news storm pass them by.

Princess Eugenie is said to be close to Harry and Meghan. She was the only member of the family to visit her cousin in the USA. The princess can also be seen several times in a multi-part Netflix documentary series and also has her say.

Eugenie plays a minor role in the official appearances of the Royal Family, as does her sister Beatrice (34). That is unlikely to change under King Charles III, who wants to streamline the monarchy. Nevertheless, the princess is present in public: she is the director of the London art gallery Hauser

No comeback for Andrew

Meanwhile, Eugenie's father, Andrew, reportedly doesn't want to limit himself to the role of grandfather, but is considering legal action against American actress Virginia Giuffre. Andrew wants to argue that he never met his alleged victim Giuffre and that a photo showing the two together more than 20 years ago was fake, the Sun reported earlier this week.

Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. Before going to trial, Giuffre and Andrew settled out of court. In exchange, the prince reportedly paid several million pounds.

Experts give Andrew's plans little chance of success: "Even if Prince Andrew were successful, and that's a huge 'if', I can't imagine that he could then take on public duties again," said the monarchy observer and constitutional lawyer Craig Prescott from the University of Bangor of the German Press Agency. Most foundations and organizations have long distanced themselves from the 62-year-old. "So it's hard to see what it could bring to the monarchy if Prince Andrew came back."
