In its finale on linear television, the eco-thriller "The Swarm" was able to maintain the viewing level of the previous evening. In contrast to the other broadcast parts, the expensive series was no longer a ratings winner in prime time, because the parallel ARD crime thriller "Tod am Rennsteig - Augen um Auge" was watched by a good 6.6 million on Thursday from 8:15 p.m.

The fourth double episode of the eight-parter on ZDF saw an average of 4.58 million (16.4 percent). On Monday at the start, 6.8 million were there, on Tuesday 5.4 million and on Wednesday 4.56 million.

Bestselling author Frank Schätzing was not very enthusiastic about the film adaptation of his material, which was published about 20 years ago. The series about the revenge of nature is an international co-production and a prestige project of the Second German Television. ZDF spent more than 40 million euros on the mini-series.
