The fact that this process has met with such great public interest is due to the defendant: Gwyneth Paltrow has to defend himself against the accusation that he hit a man on the ski slope in February 2016, seriously injured him and then fled. Paltrow counters that she is the real victim. Her lawyer portrayed the actress as a "cautious skier" in his opening speech. The lawyer blames the plaintiff himself for the collision, in which the man allegedly suffered broken ribs and a brain injury. The retired ophthalmologist was driving on the runway behind Paltrow and had to swerve to avoid the collision.
