The aspiring entrepreneur's son Malte Angersbach (Jan Niklas Berg) is found dead - shortly after his father announced that they want to take over a flourishing construction company. Coincidence? Patriarch Borris Angersbach (Klaus Zmorek) only got to the top of the company through his marriage to Luise Angersbach (Angela Roy). His stepson Kai (Golo Euler) distanced himself from the family early on and also fought professionally for his hated stepfather's business. Chief inspectors Marie Brand (Mariele Millowitsch) and Jürgen Simmel (Hinnerk Schönemann) find out that Kai was once the victim of a kidnapping that was never reported to the police.
