Goldbeck (49) and Ernestine Hipper (60) accepted the Oscars on stage. In addition, Volker Bertelmann (57), impressed by his strong competition, received the Oscar for "Best Film Music".

In addition, "Nothing New in the West" was only the fourth German film after "The Tin Drum" (1980), "Nowhere in Africa" (2003) and "The Lives of Others" (2006) to win an Oscar in the category "Best Foreign Language Film". Movie" awarded. In this category, the German production competed with films from Poland, Argentina, Belgium and Ireland.

However, the anti-war film, which is based on the book of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque (1898-1970), failed to assert itself in other top categories. Instead, "Best Tone" went to "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Best Make-up" went to "The Whale". "Avatar: The Way of Water" received the award for "Best Visual Effects" and "Best Adapted Screenplay" went to "The Pronunciation".

In the top category "Best Film" the chances for "Nothing New in the West" were good. However, the Netflix film had to admit defeat against the sci-fi adventure and the night's smash hit "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
