"Joker" starred Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian suffering from severe mental health issues and living on the fringes of Gotham City society.

The Warner Bros. studio had already announced plans for a sequel to the "Joker" comic film with a theatrical release in October 2024 last August. In addition to Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener are also expected to star in "Joker: Folie à Deux". Nothing has been officially announced about the content of the sequel.

The gritty original film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide in 2019. Phoenix won the Oscar for best actor, and the thriller won the Golden Lion for best film at the Venice Film Festival.
