New leader Messi: The ten most liked posts

The new number one: Lionel Messi's (35) post about winning the World Cup is the most liked post on Instagram. More than 58.6 million people have liked Monday's emotional photo series so far (as of Tuesday afternoon) - and the trend is rising.

The soccer star has thus dethroned what is probably the most boring picture in the history of the platform after almost four years: On January 4, 2019, some jokers created a profile under the name "World Record Egg", which only showed a picture of a vile egg are. The declaration of war: "Let's set a world record together and become the most popular picture on Instagram. And beat Kylie Jenner's current world record (18 million)! We can do it!"

And indeed: the campaign went viral and the photo has collected over 56.3 million likes so far. Kylie Jenner (25) showed humor at the time and also liked the picture. Her record photo, in which her then newly born child Stormi clutches her thumb with his little fingers, is now far behind.

Messi's eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo (37) only comes in third. However, the Argentine is involved in the picture. Ronaldo posted a promotional photo for Louis Vuitton on Instagram on November 19, 2022. He and Messi can be seen playing chess on a suitcase belonging to the luxury group. It has received 42 million likes to date.

The World Cup in Qatar has thrown the top 10 most popular Instagram posts upside down. Lionel Messi's photo with the World Cup trophy on the plane has received 34.5 million likes since it was published on Monday and ranks fourth.

Ronaldo follows immediately afterwards. On October 28, 2021, he announced the twin pregnancy of his partner Georgina Rodriguez (28) and was overjoyed to hold an ultrasound image of the little ones in the camera. A daughter and a son were on the way. The post has received 32.6 million likes to date.

However, there is also an immense tragedy inherent in the picture: finally, in April 2022, the couple announced on Instagram that the boy had died. Only the birth of the girl gave the two the strength to "experience this moment with some hope and joy," they wrote at the time.

Lionel Messi himself also posted the curious chess photo for the well-known fashion brand on his channel on November 19, 2022. He didn't get as many likes as his counterpart in the picture, but around 32.5 million "likes" are enough for sixth place.

A very bitter message for Ronaldo ranks seventh. The Portuguese shared his thoughts on the World Cup with his home country on December 11, 2022. His "greatest dream", that of the World Cup, had "burst", he wrote on Instagram. The post has garnered more than 31.3 million likes to date.

"Love is war": These are the words that emblazoned next to the last post by rapper XXXTentacion (1998-2018). Today it is the only post on his Instagram feed and comes in at eighth place with more than 30 million likes. XXXTentacion was robbed and shot in a Florida parking lot on June 18, 2018. He succumbed to his gunshot wounds in hospital about an hour after the attack.

And again Messi, and again the World Cup in Qatar: The convincing 3-0 semi-final victory against Croatia prompted the 35-year-old to create this series of photos, which made the dream of the title grow immeasurably in his home country. He published it last Tuesday, so far it has been liked by around 28.7 million people.

Finally, some romance again: Pop star Ariana Grande (29) gave her husband Dalton Gomez (27) the vows on May 15, 2021 in the closest family circle. On May 26, 2021, she shared a gorgeous photo on Instagram of her kissing the groom. Over 26 million people have liked it so far.
