Netflix series: "It makes me so angry": Queen Elizabeth II's girlfriend etches against "The Crown"

From the controversial cast to the topics covered, the fifth season of Netflix series The Crown isn't going down well with everyone. The Royal series even makes some really angry.

Lady Anne Glenconner was herself part of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, later maid of honor and a close confidant of the late Princess Margaret. She recently opened up about The Crown on BBC 4's Woman's Hour. She called the series "complete fantasy" and said it was "so unfair to the members of the royal family". "It's so annoying. I don't watch 'The Crown' anymore because it just makes me so angry," she explained.

One episode of the second season was particularly shocking for her. It claimed Prince Philip was responsible for his sister's plane crash that resulted in her death. "That was utterly untrue," said Lady Glenconner. "And I think it's very hurtful to say that about people. Nobody wants their relationships to be messed up like that."

She also revealed that Helena Bonham Carter visited her for her own research. Bonham Carter played Queen's sister Margaret in seasons three and four. "She came for about two hours. I told her how Princess Margaret smoked and how she walked," revealed Lady Glenconner.

But the implementation of the film actress did not please her at all afterwards. "I saw Helena after she starred in 'The Crown' and she said, 'How did you like it?' And I said, 'Well, quite disappointed.' And she said, 'I know. But the thing is, I'm an actress and I have to do what's written for me,'" she recalled in the interview.

Netflix itself has stated that The Crown "[was] always presented as a drama based on historical events." While the royal family and family confidants do not consider the result to be particularly successful, fans are enthusiastic about the Royal series.
