Musicians: "These icons become disappointments": Cardi B publicly fights with Madonna

It's a celebrity fight with a happy ending. On Saturday, superstar Madonna posted an Instagram Story explaining why she's been an important trailblazer for female artists.

Her book "Sex" was groundbreaking in 1992, she explained. "In addition to photos of me showing me naked, there were also photos of men kissing men, women kissing women and me kissing everyone," wrote the pop icon, commenting on the headwind that she experienced at the time. She "[spent] the next few years being interviewed by narrow-minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a woman," she said, recalling that because of the controversial illustrated book, she was "a whore, a witch, a heretic and the devil".

Today the world is different, she explained. "Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her bare ass and Miley Cyrus can wreck it like a wrecking ball Come along," Madonna wrote, adding, "You're welcome, bitches."

One didn't sit well with the post: rapper Cardi B. "I've paid homage to this woman so many times because I grew up with her. She can get her point across without using clown emojis and talking lint in her mouth, she wrote, adding, "These icons really become disappointments once you make it in the industry, so I'm keeping to myself."

Anyone who assumed that the two musicians would now be enemies of each other forever is wrong. A little later, Cardi B revealed on Twitter that she had already exchanged views with Madonna. Madonna, in turn, posted a declaration of love to her colleague. As quickly as the dispute picked up speed, tempers calmed down again. In the age of social media, that's a rarity.
