Fair, finally fair again, packed halls, far too many people, wrong turns, volume, a Babylon on the outskirts of the city. That's how it was this summer in Milan, at the world's most important furniture festival, the Salone del Mobile.

The Corona break also meant that the designers and furniture manufacturers were unable to present their new designs on stage, which they want and need. A sofa, a lamp, a chair work best in the room; an Instagram photo, on the other hand, sticks about as much as the view from a moving car into a shop window. There was a backlog of ideas: there was so much, but it couldn't get out. Now the gates were open again, the stream was mighty.
