Michael Wendler and Laura Müller: RTLzwei documentary faces massive headwind

The docu-soap announced by RTLzwei about the pregnancy of Michael Wendler's (50) wife Laura Müller (22) is making waves. Could the two's TV comeback backfire? The first advertising deals of the 22-year-old influencer have already collapsed. And RTL is also clearly distancing itself from the project of the competing broadcaster, which has already been heavily criticized.

In a statement via Twitter, RTL writes after many critical comments and inquiries from its viewers: "The Michael Wendler documentary soap from RTLzwei will be available neither before nor after the TV broadcast on RTL."

In addition, Carmen (57) and Robert Geiss (59), who have had their own format with "The Geissens – A Terribly Glamorous Family" on RTLzwei for years, have now threatened the broadcaster with an exit. "We received the shock news of the new 'Docu-Soap Format Baby-Glück' this morning during the shooting of our format in the Maldives," writes Carmen Geiss on Instagram. "We distance ourselves in the strongest terms from Corona deniers and people who call Germany a concentration camp. Conspiracy ideological statements are not our style. Even if it should result in the Geissens stopping on RTLzwei!"

And Laura Müller's Instagram career is also crumbling. Her advertising deal with a Swedish baby accessories company recently fell through after the first customers questioned the company's seriousness because her advertising face also produced content for the OnlyFans erotic platform.

The company responded promptly with a statement and severe consequences for Müller: "Thank you for informing us and sharing your feedback. We have taken the necessary measures and will not continue to work with this profile. We apologize for any violations." In the future, they also want to improve the background checks for cooperation partners there.

The six-part documentary planned by RTLzwei is to be broadcast later this year. The consequences show the parents-to-be during the birth preparation course and when buying a cot. Even the birth should be part of the docu-soap. The broadcaster announces them as a "season highlight". Wendler also stated that he was clearly distancing himself “from some of my past statements” – also in the interests of his wife and the baby.

With posts about the “dictatorship” of the federal government during the corona pandemic, he made himself unbearable for RTL in 2020 and was removed from the already wacky episodes for “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”, where he was on the jury at the time.
