On the way to selecting a German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2023, the applicants' music rehearsals have begun in Cologne. Today, singer and dancer TRONG took the stage in a studio complex where the ESC preliminary round will be held this year.

He practiced his song "Dare To Be Different" - a funky pop song with all kinds of dance numbers. The 30-year-old from Bad Kissingen, who has already won a Vietnamese talent show, seemed quite optimistic when he entered the stage. "I brought my four dancers with me," he reported. "We're really excited about it and we're in the mood."

Ballads, rock, pop and party hits

The decision show, moderated by Barbara Schöneberger (48), can be seen on Friday evening on the first (March 3, 10:20 p.m.). There are a total of nine applicants for the German ESC ticket. These are Frida Gold, Ikke Hipgold, Lord Of The Lost, René Miller, Anica Russo, Lonely Spring, Will Church, Patty Gurdy and TRONG. The bandwidth ranges from heavy ballads to rock and pop to party hits.

Who goes to the ESC in the end will be decided in a mixture of public vote and jury vote. The competition, in which Germany has often done very poorly recently, will be held in Liverpool, England, on May 13th. Britain is stepping in as ESC host country for Russia-attacked Ukraine, which won the 2022 competition.
