With him in the "brand new studio" is Ulrike von der Groeben for sport - that's how anchorman Peter Kloeppel introduced his first "RTL Aktuell" edition in a new environment on Sunday evening. The big round table is history. The moderators of the RTL main news now have a longer, more modest table and broadcast from a more realistic-looking studio.

Kloeppel (63) explained a lot while standing, wearing a dark blue suit with sneakers. At the end of the show he said "We'll get back to you tomorrow as always..." - and was jokingly interrupted by comedian von der Groeben (65): "What do you mean like always? For the second time from the new studio."

The opening credits of "RTL Aktuell" have also been streamlined: no more globe and no more virtual flight over an artificial cityscape into the studio in the former Rheinhallen of the trade fair, the current RTL headquarters in Cologne.

Kloeppel (63) had already said before the premiere: "We all feel very comfortable in this studio. After many years of sitting and standing in a green box with virtual backgrounds, we are now in a room with real elements, i.e. LED screens." This has the great advantage of not having to constantly look at a monitor to check where you are and what you are showing.

After "RTL Aktuell" on Sunday evening, the majority of the private broadcaster's news and magazine programs will soon follow from the variably formable 360-degree studio - i.e. "Punkt 6/7/8", "Punkt 12" to "RTL Nachtjournal". The late-evening magazine "RTL Direkt" will continue to be produced in Berlin.
