Mark Goddard: 'Lost in Space' star has died

US actor Mark Goddard (1936-2023), known for his roles in “Lost in Space” and “General Hospital”, has died. He was 87 years old. In a statement on Facebook, Goddard's wife Evelyn Pezzulich explained that the TV star had been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He died on Tuesday, October 10, in Hingham, Massachusetts, while receiving hospice care, it said.

"I'm so sorry to announce that my wonderful husband passed away on October 10th," she wrote. A few days after his 87th birthday on July 24th, the actor was hospitalized with pneumonia. "We were hopeful when he was transferred to a rehabilitation center, but then doctors discovered he had end-stage pulmonary fibrosis for which there is no cure."

His wife went on to say that Goddard received excellent care in a hospice "and was able to die peacefully and with dignity." She added: "His children and I had the opportunity to express our love and say goodbye.'" She will never know "how I deserved to spend 33 years with such a loving, gentle and handsome man who made me laugh so often."

Mark Goddard became known for his iconic role as Major Don West in "Lost in Space". The series ran on TV from 1965 to 1968. Goddard later appeared in the soap opera "General Hospital" as Derek Barrington from 1985 to 1986. The actor could also be seen in “Quincy” or “A Colt for All Cases”. Goddard was married to Evelyn Pezzulich for the third time.
