Love: These five compliments contain nasty, hidden messages

At first glance, or rather a sentence, you feel flattered, embarrassed, you start to grin and say thank you when someone compliments you. But especially in love and in a relationship there is also a form of passive-aggressive compliments with hidden messages. All of a sudden, after blushing for the first time, you realize: wait a minute, what did he or she just say?

"You cook as well as my mother" What should actually be understood as a compliment triggers one thing in most women above all, a defensive attitude towards the mother-in-law. After all, it is not the yardstick of things and there is no point in competing for it. For men, such sentences are more clichéd in the technical direction, but cause a similar thinking.

"You look so much younger"Typical woman: "Aha, do you mean that I looked old before?". A sentence that, strangely enough, you actually take as a compliment from a friend can be immediately categorized differently by your partner. Women in particular do not want to be reminded of their age, nor do they want to look "old", which could be behind this sentence.

"The garment makes you much slimmer"Similar to the sentence above, this one is. Predominantly women are allergic to compliments of this kind. The thought reaction also usually occurs here: "Wow, does that mean that I'm usually fat?". Better: "The garment suits you very well!"

"You're always so nice and don't see the evil in others at all" Could also mean: "Darling, you're a bit stupid and very naive, you need me to explain the world to you," to say it very harshly. If someone describes you as too nice and nice in the relationship, it is often because the other person also thinks you are too naive or too lax.

"It's nice that you think so far" This sentence means that you were obviously not expected to think about an action or conclusion and the other person is in some way amazed that you apparently did it.

In general, compliments are very important in a partnership, they give a relationship stability and the partner the necessary recognition. However, one should make sure that one does not use ironic and false compliments in an argument or well-intentioned ones, such as those listed above, wrongly formulated, otherwise the situation can quickly turn negative.
