"Love doesn't need a holiday": a sequel with Cameron Diaz and Co. planned

For more than a decade, the film "Love doesn't need a holiday" (2006, original title: "The Holiday") has been part of the annual Christmas program for many people. Now, 17 years after its release, a sequel to the romantic comedy is said to be in the works - with the original cast. "The Sun" claims to have learned this from insider circles.

Filming is slated to begin next year. All four main actors, such as Cameron Diaz (50), Kate Winslet (47), Jude Law (49) and Jack Black (53), are "under contract", according to the insider. The film is to be shot primarily in Europe and Great Britain. So far there has been no confirmation from the actors or screenwriter Nancy Meyers (72).

The source adds: "The film is one of the most successful of its kind and is still seen by millions of fans around the world every year - so it makes perfect sense to revive these characters and find out what became of their lives is after they teamed up." The second part is said to be "funny, poignant and heartwarming".

The same description applies to the plot of the 2006 original. After their failed relationships, Los Angeles' Amanda Woods (Diaz) and Surrey, England's Iris Simpkins (Winslet) decide to escape their heartbreak over the Christmas holidays and swap homes. Both fall in love again on their travels: Amanda in the handsome Graham (Law), who is also Iris' brother. Iris, in turn, falls in love with Amanda's co-worker Miles (Black). In the end, everyone finds their happy ending and even spends New Year's Eve as a quartet.

The film cost around £70,000 to produce at the time, according to The Sun. It brought in more than twice as much at the box office before becoming a Christmas classic.
